ANALYSIS OF A TOPOGRAPHIC PROFILE
DEFINITION LINE AB: It is the graphic representation of the relief of an area, obtained by getting transversely the contour lines of topographic lines.
My line goes from the Finisterre cape, in Galicia to the Gata cape in Andalucia. The first place, my line goes from is the Galician massif in the Norwest, then it continues in the North Subplateau, the it crosses the Central System, when it crosses this it continues with the Mounts of Toledo, Sierra Morena and finally, the Baetic System. I will start with the Galician Massif. It was formed in the Cenozoic area when the plateau insular shelf fragmented, forming elevated blocks and sunken blocks. The elevated blocks formed the edges of the plateau, one is the Galician massif. they are mountains of few altitude and rounded peaks. In addition to this, the most important mountains are Segundera, Cabrera and the Ancares. Then the North Subplateau, which was also formed in the Cenozoic era, when the sunken blocks created two sedimentary basin, that we call the North Subplateau and the South Subplateau. As a consequence, in this areas we found a lot of moors, countryside and hills. Now I will explain what this things are. To begin with, I´ll start with the moors. They are structure, high and flat areas, that formed "tables", if they are of small size they are called oteros or witness hill. In second place, the hills are inclinated zones between the moors and the countryside. And finally the countrysides are low plains gently wavy traveled by rivers, they are formed where the moors have been erosionated and there we found clay. Before the south subplateau we found the central system. It started to form in the Precambrian era, about 4000 to 600 millions years ago, when an arched mountain band emerged from the sea and occuped some isolated points of the Central System. Then it continued in the Cenozoic era, when the elevated blocks formed the mountain flanges of The Plateau. Furthermore The Central System is the relief of highest altitude of The Plateau and it divides it in two parts. The most important mountains are Somosierra, Peña de Francia, Guadarrama, Gredos and Gata. After this, they come The Mounts of Toledo, they started to form like The Central System, in the Precambrian era. They finished in the Cenozoic era. They are of low altitude and divide the South Subplateau, separating the Tajo and the Guadiana basins. The most important mountain is Guadalupe. Continuing the rute of my line, the next mountain is Sierra Morena. It was formed in the Cenozoic era when the push of the Baetic Mountains. Sierra Morena it isn´t a mountain, if not a abrupt step that separates The Plateau of the Guadalquivir Valley. The most well-known mountains are Madrona, Pedroches and Aracena. Finally, the last mountains are the Baetic Mountains, they were formed in different Eras. The first formation was in the Paleozoic Era, when the Baetic Massif was formed. A Oceanic fossa was also formed. It continued in the Mesozoic era, when the sedimentation deposited materials in the oceanic fossas. The last formation was in the Cenozoic era when, because the folding of the materials, the Baetic Mountains and the Pyrinees were emerged. The Baetic System present a geological complexity and they are structured in two mountain Systems separated by depressions. They are the Penibetic System, which sorrounds the coast and it relief hides the most elevated peaks of the Iberian Peninsula; Sierra Nevada, Mulhacén and Veleta. After the Subetic System is located in the interior, the most important mountains are Grazalema, Ubrique y Cazorla. Between these mountains is the Intrabaetic Depression, which is fragmented in several small depressions called; Hoyas, Ronda, Antequera, Guadix.
