North Korea has been described as a "Communist" state and a "Cold War Relic". The Communism emerged in the early 20th century. After the end of "The World War II" Korea was divided into two zones: North Korea and South Korea. The URSS occupied the north part and so the regime arised.
Alexandra Kim is considered the first Korean communist.

It´s a hard regime, with effective sanctions, that make people obey. No one disobey the leader and the laws because, if not, they can be in danger. The leader uses the propaganda and advertising, so everyone thinks the same things.

The word Gulag was firstly used by a Communist Party of the Soviet Union to mention like a type of concentration camp where they sent criminals but also "politicians" (ex-ministers, priests, deportees...)
It comes from the set of all prisons and concentration camps of the Soviet Union, that were denominated Gulag.
Recently the word is used with another meaning that is not relacionated with the Soviet Union, a clear example is the expression used to refer the country itself: North Korea, "The Gulag".

ONE LEADER AND ONE PROGRAMME: leadership is only given to a single man, all the power is concentrated in him. He is considered as a symbol.
The country is supposed to have only one programme and is the one of the dictator.
ABSENCE OF INDIVIDUAL LIBERTY: the inhabitants haven´t got any rights or liberty, if is not through the consent of the dictator. People are suppposed to obey, they can´t criticize the leader, they must have discipline, duty and sacrifice.
NATIONAL GLORIFICATION: The nation is extremely glorified. The nation is better than the others.
GLORIFICATION OF WAR: war is considered esential for the defense of the nation and population.
TOTALITARIAN STATE: It controls the people´s personality each moment.
RACIALISM: They think their country and their race is superior than others.
7. Compare the life of a north-korean family with your own. In addition, try to describe the life of a north-korean teenager of your same age.
- We can express our ideas of the society freely, in North Korea they can´t.
- We have the tv channels we want and we can hire new ones without the permission of another person
- My family an me can choose the clothes we want to wear, in Noth Korea men can only wear dark clothes.
- We can listen the music we prefer, the same thing happens with the book we want to read.
- In North Korea they can´t travel out of the country, here we can go out when we want.
- They can´t drive cars, they have bikes.
- They cant't study what they want. We can study the career what choose.
Life of a teenager:
Teenagers can´t go alone on the street, they can´t go to parties or going to the cinema with friends. They can't choose their clothes, and they don't know any news from the outside world.
